Instruments we find most helpful

Diamond Decisions

Our personal and organisational lives are full of decisions, strategic, tactical and existential. “Diamond Decisions” is a instrument that helps any person or organisation think and feel their way mindfully through decision processes together so that decisions grow naturally from the core values of the organisation and relate well to the situation or environment.

We call the process Diamond Decisions because diamonds are glitteringly clear, extremely long-lasting and can be used for cutting through the toughest materials. The word ‘decision’ has its roots in the idea of cutting, in the same way that ‘incision’, ‘concise’ and even ‘scissors’ do.

The diamond shape also reflects the essence of the process, a series of three successive phases of divergent and convergent thinking. Wise decisions begin with learning about the issue, then focusing on the key issues. Having identified those, the next stage is to think as widely as possible about as many alternative as possible and this narrowing down to the decision itself. The final diamond opens with the careful planning how to implement the decision and closes with the last stage, i.e. the focused implementation.

A good decision takes account of all the relevant facts that can be known at the time it is made and of all the people who will be affected. It also integrates the rational, emotional and spiritual values of the people engaged in making the decision.

Diamond Decisions is available as a e-book and as a practical group learning event, customised to your organisation..
